Abstract

This research aims to describe findings regarding character development in young children early in the traditional art of pangkak gasing in the Riau Islands region, Batam. Subject This research is about young children in the Batu Aji area who are skilled at playing pangkak gasing. This research is a type of qualitative research Spreadley model ethnographic approach. The results of this research show that involvement Early childhood in playing Pangkak Gasing reflects his character, such as being patient, diligent, thorough, independent, responsible and disciplined, which is formed through encouragement, demands, habituation and example to produce work with precision. It was also found that there were several supporting factors that influenced this the formation of children's character in the traditional art of tatah sungging such as historical values, values philosophical, public perception, use of language styles, level of difficulty in producing precise work, children's skills in producing work with precision, and enthusiasm cultural preservation in the Malay community of the Riau Islands, Batam.
