Abstract

This study aims to analyze permissive parenting styles and their impact on the discipline of early childhood. Permissive parenting, characterized by low control and high acceptance from parents, grants children significant freedom without consistent rules or boundaries. The research approach adopts a qualitative descriptive method, relying on literature studies as the primary data source. The researcher collected and organized information from selected literature, encompassing various aspects such as the definition of permissive parenting, supporting theories, previous research findings, influencing factors, and implications and recommendations for parents and other stakeholders. The process involved an in-depth analysis of each literature source used, including an evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of each cited study. The results indicate that permissive parenting negatively affects early childhood discipline. Children raised with this parenting style tend to have difficulty following rules, exhibit impulsive behavior, and lack responsibility. The primary factors motivating parents to adopt a permissive parenting style include a desire to avoid conflict, feelings of guilt due to limited time spent with their children, and misunderstandings about the concept of affection. The study concludes that while permissive parenting may enhance children's self-confidence, its adverse effects on discipline are more significant. Therefore, educating parents on adopting a balanced parenting style that combines granting freedom with setting boundaries is essential to support optimal child development.
